The Team

There are a vast number of people throughout the College that have put in hours of their time to ensure the stand at this years Chelsea Flower Show runs smoothly. The people below are a few of those individuals:

Heidi Baker

Heidi Baker

Isle of Man - BSc (Hons) Horticulture

I am studying in my final year for the degree in Horticulture after topping up from the Foundation degree in Professional Floristry. This is the third year I have been involved with the Chelsea exhibit for Writtle college and this year I am working mainly with other students on the publicity and marketing side of things. Being able to represent the college as part of the Chelsea team is such a fantastic and exciting opportunity and has definitely been one of the highlights of my course. I am not sure what path to go down when I finish my degree, but hopefully it will be one that combines my love of floristry and gardening!

Andrew Birkett

Andrew Birkett

Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire - BSc (Hons) Horticulture

I was lucky enough to be involved in the Chelsea flower show in 2005 and 2006 and feel proud to be representing the college again at such a major event. This year I have been mainly involved with procurement and production of plants. This includes an information booklet on the plants used and why they are suitable. I have also been able to give my input towards the design of the exhibit to hopefully provide a strong impact to both the judges and the public. I look forward to seeing our efforts as I help construct the exhibit in terms of plant placement and planting combinations and help man the stand during the show week itself.

Sam Blinman

Sam Blinman

I have enjoyed working in the landscape indusrty from a young age working for my dad's company and have come to Writtle to enhance my knownledge in a different environment working on new skills. I am proud to be envolved with the Chelsea build team of 2008 and will look forward to the challenges that being envolved with such a event brings. When i leave college i am looking to work within the contracts side of the industry.

Annika Brown

Annika Brown

Alfrick, Worcestershire - BSc (Hons) Horticulture with Business Management

I came to Writtle College as a mature student having worked previously in customer service and accounts. Horticulture was initially just a hobby but now that I am in my final year which included a placement year both in the UK and in Spain, I haven't regretted a single part. This is my third year at Chelsea, with each year being different, however the experience that I have gained everytime is second to none. This year I have been involved with publicity and marketing such as helping to put together a postcard featuring the Essex flower, the Field Poppy drawn by an artist working on the college grounds, but I will also have a day helping out on the actual stand.

Gill Butterworth

Gill Butterworth

Great Dunmow, Essex

I'm exploring my interest in garden design with Writtle as an Associate student - my day job is as a Performance Manager with the County Council. I completed the Certificate of Continuing Education in Garden Design in 2006 and am now learning what I can about the build, starting with the Landscape Construction Contracts module and now the opportunity to be involved in creating a garden for Chelsea! Really pleased to be promoting Essex too.

Phillip Collins

Philip Collins

Foundation Degree (FdSc) Horticulture

I have always been interested in gardening and landscaping. I was born in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, U.K. but moved to the U.S.A. when I was twelve, and then moved back to the U.K. for the start of college. I am doing a Foundation degree in Horticulture and am part of the build team for this year's Chelsea show.

Ryan Foster

Ryan Foster

BSc (Hons) Landscape and Amenity Management

I've lived locally in Danbury for the last 13 years and was educated at Moulsham High School where i continued on to Sixth form to study for my A levels. I am now in my second year studying a Degree in Landscape and Amenity Management and am part of the Build team. For the last two years I have been working for a local Landscaping company and hope that I can bring skills from this. I am excited about exhibiting at Chelsea as I think it will be an amazing experience and opportunity for me. When I leave college I hope to start my own landscaping and maintenance company and maybe exhibit again.

Kieran Kelly

Kieran Kelly

I am from Zimbabwe and studying international horticulture at Writtle college. With the knowledge i gain through the course i hope to return home and start up a tomato farm. I feel very privileged to be involved in the Chelsea Flower show this year and the experience and knowledge gained will be invaluable. I am part of the build team on this years show and in particular the water feature. I am looking forward to the challenge of being involved in such an event.

Rosie Maguire

Rosie Maguire

BSc (Hons) Horticulture. 2nd year

I was part of the writtle's chelsea exhibit last year, it's fresh to be working with new people and a completely new approach to the display. I've had a disjointed experience of horticulture so far including garden maintenance, rose growing, nursery work and garden design. To be part of the build team for chelsea 2008 means i am finally focusing on what i love most: constructing something beautiful! It's also my responsibility to liase with the planting and detailing team so we can all combine ideas and get the most out of what we're building.

Matt Northover

Matt Northover

BSc (Hons) Horticulture

Matt went to Windsor High School in Halesowen and worked in the horticulture industry for 6 years before deciding to go to Cheltenham and Gloucestershire University to study for the HND in Garden and Landscape Design. He came to Writtle College in 2007 to top up to the BSC (Hons) in Horticulture and is writing his dissertation on the effect of climate change and global warming on UK gardens. Matt has already helped at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2005 with Pershore College where he was involved with the building of the garden and the planting design. His passion for plants continues to shine through as he helps with the planting plans on the Writtle College garden.

Tom Robinson

Tom Robinson

Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk - Foundation Degree (FdSc) Landscape Construction

I am currently finishing the final year of a Foundation Degree in Landscape Construction. I spent the middle year of my course working in the Design and Build department of ISS Waterers Landscape. This experience made me even more interested and passionate about working within the landscape industry, and I am very excited by the prospect of building an exhibit at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Tim Seedhouse

Tim Seedhouse

Foundation Degree (FdSc) Landscape Construction

I was educated at The Billericay School (Essex) and am now studying Landscape Construction after an inspiration that came from work experience at school. This is my last year at the college and I am privileged to have been asked to be part of this project. I hope to eventually own my own landscape construction and maintenance firm. I am on the construction team for this project, providing skills that I have acquired working for a Billericay based landscaping company. I am looking forward to the journey that is The Chelsea Flower Show.

Wendy Way

Wendy Way

Originally from west London we moved to Harlow, Essex when I was four and my first impression was of green spaces and trees. The love of parks and appreciation of green space has stayed with me and I'm now in my third year studying for a BSc in Hort and Landscape and Amenity Management. The theme for this year's stand at Chelsea caught my attention as I've gardened for many years in Essex gardens and like to experiment with new plants; I'm mainly involved in the interpretation for the stand.

Cerys Williams

Cerys Williams

Kerry, Powys (Wales) - BSc (Hons) Horticulture

Ever since I was a little girl I have been a keen gardener. I love working outdoors and Horticulture provides the perfect opportunity to do so. I have always wanted to be part of a Chelsea Flower Show team and as this is my final year I knew that I couldn't miss this amazing opportunity. So far I have been involved in the potting on of the plants and will be helping with their general maintenence. I will also be helping with the detailing of the final exhibit. I'm very excited about representing Writtle College at such an amazing event and it will be a fantastic way to finish my studies at Writtle!
