Maria Beadle

Graduated: BSc (Hons) Animal Management (Zoo & Companion Animals)
Nationality: British
Occupation: Dog Care and Welfare Technician for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

How has the completion of your course supported you in your career?
The courses at Writtle helped me to become more independent, organised and a team player.

The skills and knowledge I gained from Writtle helped me to gain a position as a Dog Care and Welfare Assistant at Guide Dogs. After eight months, I gained the Dog Care and Welfare Technician position.

Why did you choose to study at Writtle University College?

  • The range of courses available at Writtle.
  • The lovely location and surroundings; it didn't feel like a college/university due to the nature surrounding you.
  • I have always wanted to work with animals, which is why the course was perfect!

What does Writtle University College mean to you?
Rollercoaster (as most would say). A stressful five years but so worthwhile!

What did you particularly enjoy about your course?
I loved the modules on Animals in Society and Animal Health & Welfare (which is why I'm now working for Guide Dogs!) I enjoyed the theoretical work more than the practicals.

Future Plans
There is good progression at Guide Dogs so I would like to continue my professional development and feel that Writtle prepared me well for work in such a great organisation.
