Why did you choose to study at Writtle University College?
A dedicated team of floristry staff & tutors and a course that covered a wide spectrum of topics that all interlinked across the floristry industry and provided students with a greater depth of knowledge about their industry.
What does Writtle University College mean to you?
It is a beautiful place to study and the college patron (Mr Alan Titchmarsh, MBE) plays a hugely supportive role to the college and its students. It was an honour to receive my degree award from him. As only one of three universities that provide the full BA Hons degree scheme in Floristry I consider Writtle College a great asset to the horticultural/floricultural industry for the East and South of the UK.
What did you particularly enjoy about your course?
I acquired specialist design techniques and broadened my knowledge on international design schemas, which help me make positive design choices to meet client’s briefs for floral bouquets and arrangements. The Floriculture module of my course gave me a grounded knowledge of plant growing substrates such as Hydroculture and the process of growing methods and post-harvest techniques used to produce flowers for the cut fresh flower industry on an international scale. This enables me to assess the different care, storage and transport requirements of each plant or flower type.
I particularly enjoyed the Contemporary Floristry Practical Module. The 3rd year, in particular allowed for greater freedom of expression in our design work.
