Why did you choose to study at Writtle University College?
I chose Writtle College as it is one of the only Colleges/Universities to offer such a specialist course in equine therapy.
What does Writtle University College mean to you?
My time spent at Writtle College improved my knowledge of the specialist course, but also the wider industry, providing me with skills and experience that will last a life-time and allow me to continue my life goals.
What did you particularly enjoy about your course?
The BSc (Hons) Equine Sports Therapy course was wide ranging, exploring facets of the equine industry that I would not have expected, via in-depth practical work by way of providing case-study horses to individually work on, alongside theoretical learning that have since proved invaluable in my occupation. The course also worked in conjunction with other educational companies to provide further qualifications and hands-on work that have resulted in an even larger range of skills, understanding, experience and knowledge, that apply to my current work and future career.
My Current Job
I am self-employed with my own business, Jo Howie Equine Therapy. Becoming self-employed would not have been possible without completion of my degree and the support, experience and additional qualifications offered by the College, resulting in me becoming the only Manx Equine Sports Therapist and Equinology Equine Body Worker.
Future Plans
I intend to continue my business on the Isle of Man but also perhaps extend my equine therapy work to other countries. If I could continue to do so while undertaking postgraduate level study at Writtle College, I would take this on too!
