Care Experienced Students' Bursary

When it comes to accessing and completing an undergraduate degree, Writtle University College understands that care experienced students face significant challenges and as such recognise that they require tailored and effective support to access and succeed in Higher Education.

There are a number of stands to the support available, please email our Care Experienced Coordinator to find out more CEC@writtle.ac.uk.

One aspect of the support is a £1,000 payment per year of study (paid termly). Part-time students will receive the bursary on a pro-rata basis. To be eligible you must meet the definition and criteria detailed below.

Be under 25 at the start of your Higher Education course, assessed as a home fee payer and at any stage in your life, for any length of time (no matter for how short a time period):

  • Have been in care*, or
  • Are currently in care*, or
  • Are from a looked-after background, including adopted children who were previously looked-after*.

*This does not include time spent in boarding schools, working in a care or healthcare setting, being admitted or detained in a healthcare setting under the mental health act, or if you are or have been a carer yourself.

No application form is required for this bursary but evidence of meeting the criteria above will be required.
