Writtle University College understands the difficulties care leavers can face. This is why the University College offers the Care Leavers' Bursary which aims to enable and encourage students who live in or have lived in care to pursue their undergraduate studies.
The bursary consists of a £1,500 payment per year of study (paid termly) towards living and learning expenses for the standard duration of the course at Writtle and will be paid subject to satisfactory academic progress. Part-time students will receive the bursary on a pro-rata basis.
Applicants for the bursary must be registered Writtle University College students and have started a Higher Education course in September 2021. They must be UK residents under the age of 25 and be able to demonstrate that they have been "looked after" for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14 and in Local Authority care on their 16th birthday.
Students are required to apply for their full student support entitlement. No application form is required for this bursary but evidence of being a care leaver will be required.
