About Writtle University College

Set in the beautiful Essex countryside, just 2 miles from Chelmsford, Writtle University College puts 'Science in Practice' in a welcome, friendly and supportive environment. We offer a personal approach to your learning, with practical, industry focused courses in a number of specialist disciplines across animal, land-based, art and sport science.

Our courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level are created with an industry perspective, enabling students to gain career-relevant experience and be work ready at graduation.

Writtle offers a friendly and small community - a great place to live, study and socialise!

September 2020 Delivery

Our next HE academic year will start as planned on 14th September and we cannot wait to welcome new students to our beautiful campus. University life may be a little different - but don't let this get in the way of you achieving your goals and starting your chosen course in September.

We want to reassure you that we are committed to offering our courses in person as much as we are able to, with some theory being taught online. We are grateful for our small community and expansive, open campus which will allow us to deliver many of the practical elements of your course in person, whilst we provide some taught theoretical sessions online. We are currently working hard to plan exactly how each module will be delivered, however our smaller cohort sizes mean that we will be able to continue to provide a personal approach to your learning and conduct practical sessions in our specialist subject areas. Whilst our theory sessions will be online, we will support these with live demonstrations and Q&A sessions, encouraging an interactive experience with your course lecturers and fellow classmates. Where practical or studio sessions are part of the course module, we will aim to run these, in line with social distancing measures, in groups of around 15-20 students maximum. Many of our class sizes are already smaller than this.

We have already shown that we can deliver the theory aspects of our courses online in a very effective way. Our current students have told us how much the online lectures over the past semester benefited them, and how in some ways they preferred this method of delivery for many modules. They have told us that the ability to record and playback sessions enhanced learning.

Our Students Union will be working harder than ever to make sure you receive the warmest welcome to our beautiful campus. Our Halls accommodation will be open and our residential support services and student union are working tirelessly to ensure your experience with us will be as close to normal as it can be, in a COVID-safe environment. Following UK government guidelines, we will open as many COVID-safe facilities as we can including the Library, HE Hub and our onsite catering outlets. Our friendly Wardening and Wellbeing services teams will also still continue to support you as normal.
