Writtle College Sports lecturer helps champion cyclist Alex Dowsett with record attempt

Senior Sports Lecturer Mark Walker is helping Commonwealth time trial champion cyclist Alex Dowsett with his Hour Record bid.

Mark Walker, who is course manager for the Foundation degree in Cycling Performance, has been giving Alex coaching support and is involved in training the Chelmsford-based cyclist for this record attempt.

Unfortunately the record attempt has now been put on hold after Alex broke his collarbone but Mark will be helping him back to fitness so he can go for the record.

Alex helped present the awards at one of Writtle College’s graduation ceremonies earlier this year.

Environmental artwork at Writtle College

Environmental artwork at Writtle College

As part of their studies, students from the BSc Landscape and Garden Design course have made two environmental artworks in the beautiful grounds of Writtle College, allowing them to explore a range of issues, including their response to place.

The first work enabled students to make individual reposes to areas within the gardens and landscape; pictured here is a student creating circles from autumnal leaves. The students then considered potential community involvement and issues of place, before creating an environmental artwork using natural materials, which was lit with paper lanterns for one night.

The students reflected upon the process of making, the environmental and aesthetic impact of the work and the comments and interactions of the wider College community.
