Biography

I joined Writtle in 2003, following the sale of my business, a large equestrian centre situated in Epping Forest just north of London. The business acquired by MBO in 1999, catered to a wide variety of equestrian disciplines, but focused on dressage to Gran Prix and point to point training. Prior to the management role commencing in 1995, I had completed my HND in equine science at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire and spent many years training and competing, both in the UK and abroad. I had spells working with flat horses for Ray Hutchinson in Newmarket, National Hunt horses for David Nicholson and trained for Dressage at Vilhelmsborg, Denmark’s National Riding Centre under Nis Valdimar-Hansen. I also managed to have over 100 rides in point to points and under rules with a near 16% strike rate before weight issues finally took their toll.

In 2013 I qualified as a Veterinary Physiotherapist from Harper Adams University and completed research for my Masters in 2015 with a thesis titled ‘The Effect Over Time of 820nm GaAlAs Laser on Mechanical Nociceptive Thresholds in the Equine Gluteal Muscle in Ridden Horses’.

My research interests focus on veterinary physiotherapy in equines. In particular effects of photobiomodulation and prehabilitation on the performance equine. The racing industry and equitation psychology are other areas of specialist interest for me.
