Sandra Nicholson is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Sustainable Environments and Design and Course Scheme Manager for several postgraduate courses in the School. She teaches on under- and post-graduate courses in horticulture and landscape design. Originally trained as a horticulturist and gaining the Royal Horticultural Society’s highest award, the Master of Horticulture, Sandra’s interests now encompass aspects of urban regeneration, sustainability, planning, design, garden history and conservation of historic designed landscapes. She completed a MA Conservation (Landscapes and Gardens) at the Architectural Association in 2003, her dissertation focussing on the role and use of fruit in the 17th century garden. Her current research project is the development of a digital archive of the grounds and wider estate at Writtle University College and its use in learning and teaching.

Sandra also works with the RHS as an examiner and advisor on qualification issues chairing the Qualification Advisory Group and as a member of the Education Committee. She works with Keep Britain Tidy as a Green Flag judge judging parks and green spaces in London and Essex.
