Steve Jeyes

Role

Technician/Demonstrator
As the dedicated technician Steve supports the specialist facilities for all undergraduate and postgraduate design course areas at Writtle University College. These programmes are able to develop their own individual studio cultures which can be seen by the tailored facilities and spaces.

Biography

Steve joined Writtle in 2009 and brought with him a broad range of knowledge and experience of artistic techniques, along with exhibition participation and organising. Steve also has experience of operations management and event management, which contribute greatly to the day-to-day procedures and the end-of-year exhibition, a very important event for all final year students.

He is usually the first point of contact for technical help, for students and staff alike. He introduces students to the various printing, scanning and copying practices, and also offers teaching and coaching sessions for a variety of technical design software. This software includes Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro and SketchUp. Steve had written a range of technical guides that are available on Moodle, in the Design Resources Hub. He also trains the students to use a variety of on-site resources, including the large-scale plotters, plan scanners, the A1 laser cutter, the 3D printer, the screen printing exposure unit, the photographic studio, and the model-making workshop machinery.

Steve is an active member of a number of committees and works with a wide range of Writtle's support services, such as Property and Information Services, to ensure the needs of the studio users are understood, recognised and maintained within the University College. He enjoys the challenge of providing studios that are effective workspaces and exhibition spaces, and interacting with students throughout their time at Writtle.

Steve also covers extra aspects such as exhibition planning and resources purchasing and monitoring, social media marketing and design of promotional material, and studio facility planning.
