This studio requires students to consider 'the site' as part of the wider landscape including local and regional issues, the geographic and historical context, and as a series of complex systems involving people, place and environment. The practical and theoretical approaches to landscape architecture are applied to a larger scale site than previously undertaken by the student; this could include a large urban green space or a public/semi-public open space. The studio also stresses the importance of strategic approaches to planting design and material selection . Social demographics and and ecological conditions will be considered within the design brief. The module encourages the student to explore the technical presentation of their ideas and the evaluation and use of relevant communication techniques.
