Advanced Functional Anatomy

The module will build on students' existing knowledge of anatomy and physiology. The module will make use of taught sessions, practical dissections and palpation of live animals in order to give students a detailed understanding of musculoskeletal structure, including bony landmarks, muscle origins, insertions and actions. A focus will be placed on relating form to function, giving an appreciation of how the musculoskeletal and nervous systems act to generate locomotion. Musculoskeletal and nervous dysfunction will also be discussed in order to enhance understanding of the above principles. Overall, this module will give a detailed appreciation of osteology, myology, arthrology and neurology.
