This module is designed for students to further their understanding of the concepts involved in equitation and training of the horse. Through study and application of the concepts of learning theory and ethical training methods, along with the expansion of knowledge and experience gained in previous modules, students will be able to cultivate a holistic approach to equitation and develop their own philosophy on the subject. Methods of measuring ethical equitation will be discussed, and students will put their knowledge of research into application, while identifying good and bad practice within affiliated body rule books and legislation. Comparisons will be made between management decisions based on scientific principles and those based on traditional or emotional values. Ideas in this module will be explored through a variety of methods including seminars, journal club activities and lectures as well as giving students the opportunity to debate relevant issues.
