This module enables the student to develop a deeper practical understanding of the scientific and technical issues surrounding therapeutic intervention for the horse. Students will gain better evaluation skills in relation to static and dynamic conformation of the horse and it will enable them to relate the limitations of the musculoskeletal system to compensatory mechanisms seen in body for posture and movement. Students will be assessed using lecture demonstrations and case study reports where they should demonstrate the skills required to apply therapeutic reasoning and correct application of rehabilitation modalities to improve the outcome for the horse whether in a rehabilitation or wellness programme. The student will be expected to liaise with other para-professionals as would be expected in industry on matters such as shoeing, saddle fitting, veterinary issues and the use of other therapists. Students should be able to draw from modules such as Functional Anatomy, Animal Therapeutic Techniques, Rehabilitation and Performance and Extrinsic Factors Affecting Performance to integrate physiology, rehabilitation and subsequent return to work.
