Developing Innovative and Inclusive Practice - (15 credits)

Building upon knowledge and understanding from Coaching in Practice at Level 4 and Principles of Strength and Conditioning at Level 5, this module aims to provide students with an appreciation of the range of needs pertinent to inclusive coaching practice and how to create meaningful coaching environments. Recent years have seen a growing appreciation of the benefits that full and active participation in sport and recreation can bring to people with impairment and other special educational needs (SEN). Equally, the contribution they can make to many different sports, and at all levels, is now realized by most people. This module allows students to fully engage in developments and processes leading to the increased integration into society of people with disabilities and SEN. It will identify and evaluate the physical, emotional, psychological and economic barriers that they can encounter when attempting to participate in sport and recreation activities, acknowledging policies aimed at improving their access to, and participation in, sport and recreation activities. Furthermore, it will explore innovative and creative coaching strategies when coaching and working with people with varying needs and abilities.
