Working in Outdoor Activity - (30 credits)
This is the first 30 credits of a 60 credit Work-based Learning strand within the FdSc Sports Science with Outdoor Activity. This module is designed to facilitate the learning of 5 core skills for outdoor activity leadership and coaching.
The module will be delivered throughout the year – initially on two days per month from October to February (apart from one sailing weekend in October) – but then via a 4 week training placement in March/April. It will be split between Essex Outdoors sites where specific activity skills will be learned (sailing, paddleboarding, climbing, archery, paddle sport) followed by more general safe group handling and effective leadership skills will be taught. Successful candidates will be interviewed for seasonal instructor posts at the various Essex Outdoors centres. Academic content such as effective PDP and reflective commentary will be taught and delivered at WUC during the other two days per month in October to February.
