This module aims to provide students with a clear understanding of the theoretical and conceptual processes of behavioural change. In doing so, a range of behavioural change models will be critically examined and compared. In addition, the module seeks to critically examine known and theorised relationships between exercise, physical activity and positive mental health. It is expected that the module will arm students with a clear understanding of the options available when seeking to modify or change human behaviour within a health, exercise or sport context. In addition, students will build confidence in determining the appropriate use for these change models, as well as their impact and implications. The growing significance of ‘social connectedness’ as a mechanism for health promotion will be evaluated.
