The KellyBronze beat off stiff competition to gain top accolade for traditional Christmas turkeys for the fifth year running at the British Turkey Awards.

The judging panel at the awards ceremony, which included a magazine food writer, consultant chef and three consumers, deemed the KellyBronze to be ‘a glorious looking bird with an almost earthy, gamey flavour and the most delicious leg meat’.

The award was presented to Derek Kelly and his son Paul by former England footballer Ray Clemence and Lorna Cousins, chair of the British Turkey Federation’s marketing committee, in front of 220 guests.

For the second year running, Writtle College have entered into an agreement with KellyBronze traditional turkeys. The KellyBronze turkeys will be raised at Sturgeons Farm, Cow Watering Lane, by traditional farming methods. The turkeys will roam freely during the day, and at night they will have shelter within a deep straw filled open sided barn with plenty of fresh air.

In 2009 KellyBronze won ‘Best Traditional Christmas Product’ at Quality British Turkey Awards’, and in 2010 achieved the ‘Poultry Producer of the year award’.
