In late June a workshop and lecture based on the Art of Japan was hosted at Writtle College. The project was funded through a subsidy of The Japan Foundation and was hosted in London and Cambridge as well as Writtle.

The aim of the workshop was to build upon the delegate’s general knowledge of Japan, as well as introducing them to new techniques which included using the oriental brush ‘fude’ on traditional Japanese handmade paper ‘Washi’.

Delegates drew their own names (haiku) in Fudegraphy and also learnt the poem by Kenji Miyazawa; “Ame nimo makezu" in Japanese.

Other workshops were held in London for the British Haiku Society, and in Cambridge for St. Johns school.
