The Level 1, 2 and 3 Certificate in Creative Techniques – Interiors are popular courses within the Writtle College design portfolio. Essentially the courses will enable students to gain a sound grounding in domestic Interior Design.

Level 1 and 2 are taught one day a week for a year, resulting in a strong portfolio of design schemes, as well as a thorough art project. This could then lead a student onto the more in depth Level 3 course which is also one day a week for a year.

Following Level 3 students could, if interested, progress onto the BA (Hons) degree or Foundation Degree in Interior Design at Writtle, or be in a good position to go out into industry where they could either confidently work for themselves as a designer, or work for a practising design company.

Cathy Barnard, Course Manager & Lecturer in Interior Design, commented about the courses:

“The part-time Interiors courses at Writtle are exciting and vibrant, and give an excellent grounding into Design. They are aimed at people interested in changing career, wishing to start up their own business or just wishing to revitalise their own home.

“We are currently developing links with industry and have a number of professional designers who come into College to give advice to our students on starting up.

“Overall this is a really fun course - very sociable with excellent, very professional looking results – and ideal for a new challenge.”

At Level 1 and 2 learners will gain basic skills required to develop an understanding of various interior design concepts such as: colour, texture and pattern on walls, flooring and furniture positioning and room designs. At Level 3 students will be taught to industry standard, learning how to produce technical drawings and understand contextual influences.

Entry requirements ask that applicants have a keen interest in interior design - no previous knowledge of the subject is required for entry.
