Spring blooms are gloriously displayed for all to see at the Writtle College garden Open Day on Thursday 28 April. The College gardens will be open to visitors between 10am and 4pm.

This year sees the College open gardens take on a whole new focus with guided tours led by horticulture students available to garden visitors. With College students leading the open day this year, visitors will be introduced to a behind the scenes look at the maintenance and changes taking place within the gardens.

The usual regular mapped tours will also still be available on the day.

The opening is part of the National Garden Scheme (NGS), a charitable trust which provides financial support to a wide range of charitable institutions.

The NGS say the following about Writtle College: “it is one of the county’s largest Open Gardens advertised in the Yellow Book, the NGS guide to gardens open for charity throughout England and Wales. There are 15 acres of gardens and grounds to meander around, informal lawns with naturalised spring bulbs, heathers, a large collection of trees, and landscaped gardens designed and built by the College’s students including a ’Centenary’ garden.”

The College restaurant will be open throughout the day for refreshments, and with admission costing just £3.00, with children entering free of charge, the day promises to be a delightful day out.

There is a second chance to see the gardens with seasonal bedding displays and summer plants in full bloom on Thursday 16 June.
