Today, Thursday 16 December Writtle College hosted an equine company Equiscan for demonstration sessions. All staff and students were invited to attend the equine industry day and evening which was also filled with veterinary practitioners and therapists.
Pennie Wallace, Senior Lecturer in Equine Studies set up the visit and said about the company: “Equiscan have a medical grade digital infra-red thermal imaging scanner suitable for equine, canine and human athletes. The scanner displays thermographic images on the screen which are then referred to Equiscan’s specialist trained experts, which for purpose of the demonstration were interpreted ‘live’ during the student sessions held at the College.”
“The scanner is particularly useful for detecting sources of pain and inflammation in the early stages of muscoskeletal and neurological injuries, and non-specific lameness.”
Daytime demonstrations included rider fitness, human athlete / sports, and canine sessions. While the evening kept students busy with equine and canine sessions for vets and therapists.
