On Thursday 10 June hearing impaired students from seven schools around Essex attended Writtle College to participate in an interactive taster session with Writtle College staff. Students were from Years 7 to 10.
The aim of the day was to highlight to the students the courses on offer at Writtle as well as the excellent support they would receive from the communicator team at the College. Communicators from the College stayed with the students all day, enabling the young visitors an insight into the support service offered at the College for all courses.
Margaret Hopkinson, Co-ordinator and Communicator with Deaf at Writtle College said: “It was a fun way of introducing the young students to College life and all Writtle has to offer with our specialist range of courses.”
Students were given a tour of the grounds and then offered a choice of two interactive sessions. Students chose from either a discovery of flora and fauna in the wildlife nature garden or a sports activity which promotes team building – both taught by Lecturers from the College.
After lunch students toured the facilities at Cow Watering Campus visiting both the animal and horse unit.
Margaret Hopkinson went on to say: “As our visitors left, many commented that the day had given them ideas for what they wanted to aim for in the future, and possible courses they may wish to study.”
