Horticulture students from Writtle College have produced a practical guide book aimed at supporting landscapers working with topsoil. The booklet, commissioned by TOPSOIL a division of British Sugar, offers useful images and a step-by-step guide to preparing and laying topsoil.
The booklet is the first in a series of practical guides designed to help professionals get the best from their topsoil. It covers all the important factors in receiving, storing and using topsoil to ensure complete success in landscaping projects.
Andy Spetch, National Topsoil Manager for British Sugar TOPSOIL said: “From the outset I wanted to produce an educational guide for landscapers. I hope that the guide will be used by landscapers to train their staff who are handling topsoil. Overall I enjoyed working with the students and the end result looks very impressive and professional.”
Simon Grundy, lecturer in Horticulture said: “Three students worked on this project for TOPSOIL and I am very pleased with the outcome. All students benefit immeasurably from College industry links, which is why this project has been so important for them all to be involved in.”
The guide is freely available from the TOPSOIL website www.bstopsoil.co.uk or can be picked at external industry exhibitions attend e.g. SALTEX
