NEW EQUINE FACILITIES TO OPEN AT COLLEGE PINK HORSE DAY

On Sunday 25 April first year Higher Education students from Equine and Animal courses will be running a charity fundraising event from 10am to 4pm at Cow Watering Campus. The highlight of the day will be the official opening of the new indoor riding arena by Lucinda McAlpine - international dressage rider and natural horsemanship trainer.

Other new equine facilities to be opened on the day will a complementary equine therapy barn, housing an equine hydrotherapy spa.

The Pink Horse Day charity event, sponsored by Marriage's Feeds, aims to provide a fun, family day out with lots of interesting demonstrations and trade stands. The three charities chosen by the students are: 'Breast Cancer Campaign', 'Help for Heroes' and the local 'Barrow Farm Riding for the Disabled Group'.

Other demonstrations on the day will cover a wide range of equestrian disciplines, such as the London Horse Ball team, Polocrosse, Side Saddle, Rare Breeds, Suffolk Punch Horses, Equine Sports Therapy, Farriery, Mike Daniells Driving Display, and Spanish dressage horses.

A variety of local and trade stands will be on hand for shopping and amusement and a hog roast will be one of the refreshment options for the day.

Pennie Wallace, Senior Equine Lecturer said: “Last year's inaugural event raised £1,000 for charity and this year the students and staff involved hope to raise even more. We are especially looking forward to the official opening of the new equine facilities; we hope this might attract even more visitors to the day.”

The event will be held at the Animal Care and Horse Unit on the Cow Watering Lane campus, the official opening of the new equine facilities will be at 12pm. Tickets are £4 for children and students, £8 for Adults, or a family ticket (two adults, two children) can be purchased for £20.

All proceeds of the event will be donated to the three nominated charities.
