Passionate about plants? Learn how to make the most of your gardens, patios and windowsills with the Celebration of Horticulture!

This one-day, family-friendly event takes place from 10am to 3.30pm on Sunday 12th June, on Writtle University College's countryside campus, just two miles from Chelmsford.

Visitors can enjoy food and drink, music, plant sales, craft stalls, demonstrations and much more.

The first talk of the day will be by lecturers Mick and Christine Lavelle, a green-fingered couple who have taught at Writtle University College for 21 years.

Starting at 10.30am, they'll share anecdotes about their experiences and describe some of the exciting developments they’ve pioneered over the years.

Christine said: "This community event is ideal for anyone with an interest in plants and growing. Whether you're a horticultural expert or have just bought your first house plant, we look forward to welcoming you to a fun day of food, demonstrations, stalls and activities."

A range of professionals will join Christine and Mick throughout the day to give talks on hanging baskets, specialist veg and pots for shady spots.

In the afternoon, an expert Gardeners' Panel, including members from the RHS, will answer plant-related questions and help you tackle gardening dilemmas.

There will also be a chance to explore the University College's estate. Join one of the guided tours that introduces the plants, borders and glasshouses found throughout the campus.

Ice cream, cakes and other food will be available throughout the day from a range of outlets. Face painting and activities will be available for children.

Entry to the event is free with a voluntary donation of £5 requested for parking. For more information go to writtle.ac.uk/Celebration-of-Horticulture.
