Writtle University College is proud to be a 'Gold Sponsor' of the IAgrM Conference 2021. The one-day event highlights the future of agricultural management and brings together key influencers within the sector.

This year, The National Farm Management Conference will take place on 16th November at the QEII Centre in London. The theme will be 'Transitioning to Life Beyond Direct Farm Payments'.

With two decades of direct payments coming to an end, the industry will be looking at its next steps. The Institute of Agricultural Management (IAgrM) has put together a series of inspiring speakers and networking opportunities for an information-packed day.

Senior lecturer at Writtle University College, Henry Mathews, said: "We are delighted to be supporting IAgrM's National Farm Management Conference in 2021. The agriculture sector is undergoing a period of immense change.

"The National Farm Management Conference is an opportunity for members of the sector to come together, share ideas and shape the industry's future."

Speaking about the conference, Carl Atkin, vice chairman at IAgrM, says: "After over 20 years of direct payments coming to an end in the near future, we felt the industry needs to think about what's next.

"There's a lot of talk about the approaching changes, however, we want to take the debate forward, to what it will look like afterwards, delving into skills, competencies and issues that those working in agricultural management need to be aware of to future proof their farm businesses."

IAgrM is a registered charity that promotes high standards in the practice and business of management in agriculture. It organises and stages conferences, workshops and farm visits and promotes discussion and contact through a network of local branches.

Writtle University College has been at the forefront of the land-based sector since 1893. In 2020, it became the first UK university to offer degree programmes in Regenerative Agriculture. The courses combine expert theory and hands-on experience, using WUC's established estate.

Students are introduced to farm-level practices and ways in which they can contribute to global goals of building resilient local food chains, the provision of ecosystems services and the mitigation the impact of climate change.

Henry Matthews said: "Our courses supply the agricultural industry's next generation of skilled managers, advisers and researchers, able to think across disciplines and problem solve by applying fresh thinking and new approaches. The National Farm Management Conference offers an excellent opportunity to explore the future of the sector."
