Students, NHS services, athletes and the local community are benefiting from a new Centre of Sport and Health at Writtle Univeristy College.

The facilities launched in September 2021 and have already hosted research projects, lectures and Wing Tsun Kung-Fu classes.

The centre has also welcomed local mental health support groups, the Mid and South Essex NHS Cardiac Rehabilitation Team, and offered tours to Essex GPs.

The specialised building features a modern sport laboratory and space for teaching and community groups.

Head of Sport, Health and Wellbeing, Dr Greg Deacon, said: "We're delighted to launch our new Centre of Sport and Health. This project is one of many steps we are taking to expand our extensive sports facilities."

"Our three goals are community, curriculum and commerce. We improve the community's health outcomes wherever we can and work closely with commercial partners to add to the student experience and offer industry-relevant courses."

The Centre's second phase of construction will see the addition of a strength and conditioning area and an improved seminar room for talks and events. A student-designed garden will offer a quiet, plant-filled space for wellness exercises and group activities.

The Centre is an exciting new addition to the University College's existing facilities.

The countryside estate is just two miles from Chelmsford and offers a wide range of sporting facilities, including newly launched 3x3 basketball courts, a gym, extensive playing fields, equestrian facilities, bike trails, sports fields, indoor courts and a reservoir for water-based activities.
