Writtle University College (WUC) is proud to have delivered an innovative series of virtual guest lectures.
The speakers were introduced by Dr Kambiz (Kami) Baghalian throughout early 2021 and offered university students the opportunity to hear from a range of experts within the agriculture and horticulture sectors.
Richard Briggs is a UK and IE account manager for Bayer, one of the world's leading organisations in the areas of seeds and crop protection.
In March 2021, Richard drew on his experiences as a recent graduate to offer students a unique insight into building a career within a fast-paced sector. He described the career path and hands-on experience that led to his current work with more than 100 UK grower accounts.
Richard highlighted the connection between crops and product development, and the global networks that connect companies. Students learnt how to make the most of opportunities at university and why hands-on work experience can make a vital difference when planning their future.
Dr Baghalian said: "Our students really benefited from Richard's insights into the world of commercial horticulture. I'd like to thank him for giving his time to speak to us and I hope to see many of our students using his advice to build successful careers."
Richard added: "To work in horticulture you have to be passionate about what you do. It's an interesting industry as there are so many elements, from commercial and technical to research and development, breeding, technology, plant pathology, genetics... The list goes on. You can end up with many opportunities in diverse fields, and you have lecturers - like Kami - to help you on your way!"
