Writtle University College (WUC) staff member, Samantha Banks, has been awarded first place within the online Mastergroom competition.

Samantha and former WUC student Nicolle Paddon used Buddy, Samantha's standard Poodle, as their model for the competition. Their high standards of work impressed the judges and earned them a first in 'doubles'.

Samantha also received an individual award for her work with another of her dogs. Wilson gained her third place in the Toy and Miniature Poodle intermediate category.

Samantha said: "The online competition attracted competitors from around the globe, so we were particularly pleased to be placed. The result confirms the excellence of our students and the high standards of teaching at Writtle University College."

In addition to teaching at WUC's popular, commercially-run dog grooming parlour, Samantha runs her own business, Tails of Wigborough. Nicolle first joined the company seven years ago, to undertake a work placement during her course at WUC. Ever since completing her qualification, she has continued to work with Samantha as a fully qualified dog groomer.
