On November 5th 2020, Writtle University College welcomed guests from Liberty Produce. The farming tech company specialises in vertical growing solutions, providing industry-leading solutions to the food security crisis.

Philippe Mozzanega, Co-Founder & CSO, and Growing and Relationship Manager, Joshua Allen, delivered a virtual guest lecture to students studying higher education courses in horticulture and agriculture. Students were given an introduction to Liberty Produce's containerised farms, which have been designed to reduce Capex and Opex costs whilst increasing yield and minimising impact on the environment.

The Liberty Produce team also discussed their ground-breaking Future Farming Hub. Based at the James Hutton Institute in Dundee, the hub enables the development and testing of next-generation technologies to revolutionise indoor farming and find innovative ways to safeguard protected crops.

Writtle University College's Senior Lecturer in Crop Production, Dr Kambiz Baghalian, said: "We would like to thank Philippe and Joshua for their inspiring lecture. This was a unique opportunity for our students to speak with a cutting edge company about the latest innovations in technology and R&D. Our varied programme of guest lectures offers students important opportunities to network and be forward thinking when tackling the many production challenges that lie ahead."
