Lecturer in Sports Science, Mark Williams, has been arranging an impressive range of guest speakers. Virtual talks and webinars have allowed Sports Science students to hear from experts within the sector, while learning from home.
On May 5th, Mark introduced second year students to Sam Heathcote, strength and conditioning coach at British Athletics. Sam carried out a remote lecture on his work with the Paralympic Programme.
Sam said: "I was pleased to carry out a brief talk and Q&A with students to share my insights into Strength and Conditioning in Disability sport and help them understand some of the nuances of coaching athletes with a physical and / or intellectual impairment. My talk asked how different is it from mainstream sport and athletes?"
Earlier this spring, students had been looking forward to a guest lecture from ex-Paratriathlete, Nicole Evans-Dear. The implementation of social distancing made a face-to-face talk impossible, but Nicole kindly took part in a virtual Q&A and added a voiceover to her presentation, so students could enjoy her talk while learning remotely.
Mark said: "Despite the challenges caused by our current situation, we're working hard to ensure our students continue to have access to key figures within the sector. I'm very grateful to both Sam and Nicole for sharing their knowledge and experience."
