Writtle University College in Essex is proud to introduce an innovative new Masters programme for September 2020. MSc Equine Performance Science is designed to enhance students' knowledge, academic skills and research practice.
Rosa Verwijs, Senior Lecturer in Equine Behaviour and Nutrition, said: "We are excited to announce our new Masters programme in Equine Performance Science, and will offer students a unique experience in their postgraduate development in an innovative and engaging live academic learning environment. We aim to integrate our students into the evolving equine industry and enable them to achieve standout professional skills with which to shape their careers."
This taught masters programme can be studied over one year on a full time basis or for three years on a part time basis. The course focuses on equine performance through the study of gait evaluation, pathophysiology of injury, advanced and applied nutrition, exercise physiology, equitation science, human influences on equine performance, and methods to evaluate and enhance performance in a range of disciplines.
Teaching takes place at WUC's specialist equine campus, in rural Essex. Students will receive practical assistance from a teaching team of expert academics and industry specialists while learning to support competitive horses in training.
The course integrates theory with ongoing case studies to gain 'real life' understanding of the ages and stages of training in relation to nutrition, farriery, training, breeding, behaviour and much more. Students will have the opportunity to work with cutting edge technology used both within academic research and in the field to monitor and evaluate performance and welfare.
Students will be encouraged to move towards their personal career goals, by developing skills to plan and manage significant projects and develop interpersonal and people management skills. They may wish to apply knowledge gained at WUC to a practical business enterprise or use the breadth of the transferable skills to gain career opportunities across the equine industry into a wide range of fields including nutrition, academia, research, consultancy, design and development of equine training aids and technologies.
