This December, Writtle University College's (WUC) Chaplain, Students' Union and Wellbeing team supported an important initiative. The 'Reverse Advent Calendar' encouraged students and staff to place festive, non-perishable food in designated collection boxes. The items - which included tinned food, long-life fruit juice and Christmas pudding - were collected by Chelmsford Foodbank's General Manager Roy Brackley, on December 17.
The Foodbank has been helping people in the Chelmsford area since 2012 and is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust. Since its foundation, the Chelmsford branch has provided thousands of food packages to people in crisis.
WUC Chaplain, Revd Andrew Merchant, has ongoing links with the Chelmsford Foodbank. He said: "I'm delighted to see so many students and staff members donate to the Reverse Advent Calendar. The food they supplied will transform Christmas for many people in the Essex area."
