Writtle University College alumna Sophie Sturgeon has been named as a finalist in the Society of Garden Designers (SGD) Awards 2020. The BSc. Honours Landscape and Garden Design graduate was recognised for her dissertation design, Prescribing Nature. She is one of eight frontrunners selected across two student award categories; Commercial Design and Domestic Design.
Sophie said: "My lecturers encouraged me to enter the SGD competition but I never thought I would be a finalist. I'm delighted to see my dissertation gaining attention within the sector."
This isn't the first time Sophie has received recognition within the industry. In spring 2019, she won The Essex Gardens Trust People's Choice Award at Writtle University College's Design Degree Show. She is now enjoying an exciting role as the Assistant Landscape Architect for Open Spaces, Essex.
Steve Terry said: "Sophie was an excellent student and we're delighted that her dissertation was so well received. We have every confidence that this will be the first step in a very rewarding career."
The winners of the SGD Awards will be announced on Friday 31 January 2020 at The Landmark in London. The ceremony will honour outstanding work, from large and small residential gardens to commercial and community projects, as well as planting, hardscape and conceptual design.
