The UK's largest conservation charity, The Woodland Trust, donated more than 400 saplings to Writtle University College, as part of the Free Trees for Schools and Communities initiative.
Lecturer Tom Cole led WUC's successful bid for the trees. He said: "We were delighted to receive support from The Woodland Trust. We have been offered an excellent opportunity to benefit students, the local area and the environment by adding additional trees to our already-green 220 hectare campus. They will be planted throughout National Tree Week, which takes place in late November, by Further Education students under the direction of lecturer Scott Downes."
WUC received four sets of 105 saplings, described as medium wild harvest, medium wildlife, medium wild wood and medium wild cover. Species include, but are not limited to, hazel, crab apple, hawthorn, wild cherry, elder, rowan and silver birch.
The trees will bring enjoyable year-round colour to campus and establish food and shelter for wildlife to create a living legacy for future generations.
