Senior members of Writtle University College (WUC) and the University College Union (UCU) came together on 20 November 2019 to sign a Formal Recognition Agreement. This agreement recognises UCU for the purposes of collective bargaining, communication and consultation for staff involved in the provision of teaching and learning and establishes arrangements for consultation and negotiation between WUC and UCU. The agreement supports a continuing but formalised, positive and constructive partnership.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Tim Middleton commented: "We are pleased to recognise the UCU and look forward to working with them to build a long-term, sustainable future together at WUC. We encourage staff members to consider this opportunity to join the union at WUC".
UCU Branch Chair Greg Deacon stated: "I echo the Vice Chancellor's words and welcome all new and existing members to play an active role in the UCU future at WUC. We welcome the decision of WUC to recognise UCU and look forward to working with them going forward."
WUC and the UCU anticipate a strong working relationship that ensures staff and students continue to thrive to the very best of their ability.
