Sport at Writtle University College got off to a running start in 2019 as we provided the venue for the 2019 Essex County Seniors/U17/U20 XC Championships on Saturday 5th January.

The Essex Country Seniors Championships was hosted by Springfield Striders XC in association with Essex County Athletics Association. Where the day consisted of Under 17’s, Under 20’s and senior races, welcoming 500 competitors and hundreds of spectators to Writtle’s beautiful grounds.

Harry Moore, a third year BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Performance student was on hand to give sports massages on the day, and Sport staff were also demonstrating two types of equipment. Including the NordBord which tests hamstring asymmetry, and Force Decks, which test explosive power asymmetry.

Everyone had a great day with winning competitors Adam Hickey and Jessica Judd finishing 1st place for Senior men’s and women’s, Afewerk Rossom and Jessica Mitchell finishing 1st for U20’s men’s and women’s, and Leon Wheeler and Grace Burrell finishing 1st for U17’s men’s and women’s.

A huge well done to all the athletes that ran and made the event such a success!
