Writtle School of Design will be holding a charity sale as part of its Degree Show, giving members of the public a chance to own work by artists who are already in the international spotlight.
A total of 22 Art and Design degree and Masters students will be selling their work, up to the size of A4, at only £10 each, with all the proceeds going to Dementia UK, the charity dedicated to providing specialist nurses to families affected by dementia.
Pryle Behrman, who heads up WSD and also curates part of the London Art Fair, said: “There will be a variety of works for sale so there is sure to be something to suit all tastes. It’s a chance to pick up a bargain for a good cause - and a good investment if the student’s work goes on to be collectable!”
The sale features work by:
Sophie Dear. Influenced by nature, she uses traditional fine art media such as pencil, acrylic, oil paints and ink to create affecting pieces that focus on detail.
Sam Humphreys is exploring how what we post on social media creates a self-portrait that constantly evolves. Her work featuring images of bruised or threatened Barbie dolls to provoke discussion about domestic violence gained national and international media coverage.
Keron Beattie, whose work is featured on this year’s flyer for the Degree Show, explores the passage of time, transience and the fleeting interaction of light with everyday materials and objects.
The works will be displayed on the walls in the Design 2 studio at Writtle College during the Degree Show and will be available to take away as soon as they are bought.
