Landscape Architecture and Garden Design Masters students have visited Lisbon for their 2015 study tour.
Students and staff explored the city and its hinterland including hills, coastline, river and urban contexts.
Dr Saruhan Mosler, Senior Lecturer in Landscape Architecture, said: “The trip began in the charming World Heritage hill village of Sintra. We visited the spectacular coastline of south Portugal, including the most western point of Europe, and beach town Cascais.
“A day was spent exploring the various historic urban neighbourhoods and sites from differing historical periods. The contrast of historic palace gardens with the contemporary Expo 98 precinct inspired us to design vibrant public spaces with a high urban quality.
“Playful spaces and gardens with mature Mediterranean vegetation along the river promenade with spectacular views were some of the highlights of the study trip.”
