A Writtle College art and design lecturer has been selected to curate an exhibition of experimental film and video art at the Royal Scottish Academy.
After a call for exhibition proposals organised by the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA), Pryle Behrman has been selected to curate the exhibition in Edinburgh from 5 to 20 December as part of the SSA’s 117th Annual Exhibition.
Pryle’s exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy – which is part of the National Galleries of Scotland - is titled It's me, not you and comprises artworks in which artists temporarily commandeer sites that are normally controlled by others, with corporate buildings, public transport systems, heritage sites and the natural world all reimagined in ways that are in turn poetic, humorous and political. The participating artists come from the UK, Spain, Germany, Zimbabwe, Panama and Bolivia.
Pryle, from Chelmsford, who is a Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Art and Design at the College, said: “It is a great honour to be selected by the Society of Scottish Artists to curate an exhibition at such a prestigious venue and to have the opportunity to work with some amazingly talented artists from both Britain and abroad.
“The artists I have selected often show quite a lot of cheek in their work, maybe working right at the edge of what is legal, but they are hoping to make some serious and heartfelt points about the society we live in, mainly how it is always possible to imagine the world working in a better way to what we currently see around us.”
