Sarah Kidd, an Equine undergraduate student specialising in Horse Behaviour and Nutrition, has a date at St James’s Palace after achieving a gold Duke of Edinburgh award.

Sarah, who is 20 and in her second year at Writtle College, will travel to London on March 28 to receive her certificate from the organisation’s patron and founder – HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

Miss Kidd, who achieved the award during her time at Royal Grammar School in Worcester, will take part in The Gold Award Presentation (GAP).

The GAP is a unique event to mark the hard work, determination and perseverance required to get the award.

Sarah worked tirelessly through the five sections of her Duke of Edinburgh programme over two years. Her diverse activities included horse riding, learning to drive, crewing a sailing boat for five days in Cornwall and a four day expedition in Snowdonia in addition to being a Young Leader of a Brownie pack from her local area.

Her gold award also helped her to realise her ambition of owning and caring for her own horse, Poppy, which led her on to her studies at Writtle College.
