Writtle College’s Higher Education (HE) Floristry team were delighted to be involved in the recent visit of HRH The Duchess of Cornwall to the College – despite the secrecy!
Floristry Course Manager Jayne Hammond explains: “I was asked to plan designs for the visit but due to Palace protocol, couldn’t tell anyone until a few days beforehand. There was so much to do I was just hoping that the rest of the HE teaching team and the students would be available to help at the last minute. Luckily it all worked out really well and was a terrific opportunity for the students to do some large scale event work and has also helped to raise the profile of the Foundation Degree in Professional Floristry to a wider audience.”
Nicola Carroll, a second year student on the Foundation Degree Professional Floristry course, was asked to present a posy of flowers to The Duchess, in recognition of Nicola’s recent achievement in the heats for Chelsea Florist of the year where she was placed 3rd.
“The Duchess was really interested in all of the flowers” said Nicola “I was so nervous meeting her but she was lovely and said how much she herself liked to arrange her own flowers.”
HRH The Duchess of Cornwall toured the specialist Writtle College, founded in 1893, accompanied by Lord Petre and a number of Essex Civic Dignitaries.
