During May 2011, first year Further Education Outdoor Adventure students from Writtle College spent four days successfully undertaking their first sailing adventure on a RYA Level 1, 2 sailing course.

The course helped the students to learn about rigging, launching, sailing in all directions, capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge.

The boats sailed were Wayfarer, Pico and Osprey craft, with the one-man Pico being the student favourite.

Wind and sea conditions varied throughout the course giving the students many challenges. During the last day a gusty Force four meant that straight line journeys were fast and furious whilst turning demanded dedication and precision from the students.

The sailing trip was at the Bradwell Outdoors centre in Bradwell-on-Sea, Essex, specialists in outdoor learning.
