A raffle inspired by and run by students from Writtle College was drawn on Friday 1 April in aid of the earthquake disaster in Japan.

The slogan on the poster appealing for support came from the heart of those who initiated and developed the idea for the raffle “We all have friends and colleagues at College that came from Japan to study. We hope that their families and friends are safe and well.”

With a total of £901.91 raised students and staff have been supportive and generous in a time of international hardship and tragedy. All donations will be given to the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal .

Maria Beljajev, Garden Design student and one of the raffle organisers and promoters said “All of us involved worked hard to secure as many appealing prizes as possible. We were really pleased with the positive response we received from all, London based and local businesses and the College all in aid of supporting the relief appeal.

There are 11 Japanese students studying at the College, and I study alongside four of them which made the raffle campaign even more personal to me as well as to other study colleagues.

All of us involved in the raffle are genuinely impressed with the level of support received and look forward to handing over the money raised to the British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal .”

Just some of the prizes included a National Trust escape for two, hairdressing goodies, champagne, a College meat voucher, and silver jewellery.
