Second year Foundation Degree students in Professional Floristry designed and created stunning floral displays for the prestigious ‘Winter Wonderland Ball’. The annual event for ‘Woman in Advertising and Communication’ was held at the Landmark Hotel, London, just before Christmas.
Course tutor Jayne Hammond was approached by Prima Magazine event co-ordinator, Victoria Archibold, who asked if students could create table centres for the annual gala ball held in recognition of ‘Women in Advertising and Communication’.
Jayne said “the School of Horticulture was approached to assist with the floral designs for this high profile event as a result of the recent success at the Prima High Street Fashion Awards held in September 2009”.
The second year Foundation Degree students took on this challenge as part of their learning through work module. Jayne stated “this type of activity is extremely valuable for students on the course, who gained experience learning about event management, exploring creative ideas meeting a client brief and communication skills working as a team of professional florists”. The students attended the venue to see the finished overall effect and they received excellent feedback from the client.
