We're counting down to the Active Essex Awards on Tuesday 6th December. The annual ceremony celebrates our county's achievements and shines a light on the many ways people can become active.

Writtle University College is proud to be the event's headline sponsor, in addition to supporting the award for Active Education.

This year's awards will be hosted by TV Presenter Dr Zoe Williams and Paralympic Gold Medallist Danny Crates at Chelmsford Race Course.

The eleven awards will highlight outstanding projects and people from the Essex area. Categories include 'Unsung Hero', 'Sports Personality of the Year' and 'Strengthening Communities'.

The Active Education Award looks at schools, colleges or universities that help young people understand and embrace daily exercise as beneficial to their health and wellbeing during their academic years and beyond.

Writtle University College's Head of Sport, Health & Wellbeing and Partnerships Manager, Dr Greg Deacon said: "We are proud to be the headline sponsor of the Active Essex Awards 2022. Physical activity has the capacity to make a real difference to our everyday lives and all achievements, both big and small, should be celebrated."

The University College is already a strong supporter of community activities and, in 2022, launched a new Centre of Sport and Health. The centre has already arranged partnerships or collaborations with more than two dozen local organisations.

The Centre has become a hub for health and care services such as cardiac prehab/rehab, diabetes help, social prescribing while also supporting the University College's work to train the next generation of health and sport professionals.
