Writtle University College in Essex has added a key qualification to its BSc in Sport & Exercise Science.

The Level 3 Strength & Conditioning Trainer's Award will be built into the University College's existing courses to offer students an opportunity to gain an additional qualification, while studying for a degree.

UKSCA is a professional body that was established to set standards for S&C coaches in the UK. The UKSCA Trainer's Award is a qualification designed for PE teachers, sports coaches, fitness instructors, and therapists to safely prescribe and coach elements of strength and conditioning-related training.

The course will be taught by Lecturer in Sport Science, Mark Williams. Mark's main area of focus is athletic development and physical literacy. He works as a strength and conditioning coach for GB Basketball and Basketball England.

Mark said: "We recognise the importance of providing vocational qualifications for our students alongside their academic study programmes. Ultimately, we wish to provide our students with a broad and versatile skillset to carry into their future careers. Accordingly, being able to offer students the UKSCA Level 3 Trainer's Award will mean that our students are able to gain an industry recognised qualification."
