Writtle University College's students are gaining hands-on experience at RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival.

The event takes place on 4th-9th July. Like all RHS Flower Festivals, it is known for its spectacular show gardens which highlight the best and latest design trends.

Level Three Horticulture students have been growing plants for The SunsLifestyle Outdoor Living Garden since December 2021.

Samuel Moore, the garden's designer, is a graduate of the University College and benefitted from working on show gardens as part of his studies. He wanted to offer the next generation the same exciting experience.

Samuel worked for award-winning companies before founding Consilium Hortus, a organisation that offers bespoke garden design solutions.

In the run-up to the show, students have been supporting Samuel's plans by pruning, watering and transporting thousands of plants to the site, where they will await transplanting.

The completed garden will showcase an outdoor living space with five large, multi-stem trees to add structure, underplanted with textural and colourful planting. A louvred pergola at the rear of the garden will house a bespoke fireplace to allow for entertaining.

Richard Batey FE CTL for Horticulture, Land & Wildlife, said: "At Writtle University College we believe in putting science into practice. We would like to thank Sam Moore for offering our current students the opportunity to put their knowledge and skills to use at such a prestigious, globally-recognised event. This is a show-stopping garden and our students have worked extremely hard to produce fantastic species - well done!"

Samuel Moore of Consilium Hortus of Essex added: "The Level 3 Horticulture learners of today need to be acknowledged and celebrated, I would like to offer them the opportunity to succeed. Thank you to Writtle University College for allowing the collaboration and the use of your protective environment to achieve this, and the chance to work with the FE Level 3 Horticulture students, this has been a rewarding journey for all."
